MAKING THE WORLD WORK FOR EVERYONE, WITH GOD'S HELP

The Third Sunday of Advent, is observed in the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia as MDG Sunday. Here are a few possible ways to observe MDG Sunday:
  • Use the Propers for the day as a resource for preaching about God's call to those of us who are advantaged to respond to extreme poverty in the third world;
  • Publicize information and resources available from the Bishop Marmion Resource Center related to the MDGs;
  • Distribute information found through links on this page;
  • Take a special collection for, or devote the loose offering to, MDG-related projects.

The MDG committee was established in response to a resolution passed by the Council of the Diocese in January 2006. Council 2007 passed another resolution in support of the MDGs.

Find out what the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are and some of the ways the Episcopal Church is responding to them.
